Green World Revolution in the Historic Heart

Great to see how much Historic Heart’s plants have grown in the past 6 months - thanks to the great work of Toby Whittington’s team at Green World Revolution (GWR). Historic Heart engaged GWR to take care of our plants and planter boxes - and in the process we have created 2 jobs, for Edward and Jess.

GWR is a not for profit social enterprise, growing jobs for the unemployed, providing pathways to sustainable livelihoods for people who are suffering from long-term unemployment.

Perth artist Drew Straker ('the Muralist') has helped bring life to a Pier Street laneway in the Historic Heart with 3 mural artworks which appear to light up the laneway like neon signs ... but are actually 2D and created using only spray paint and a ‘neon glow’ technique.

Great story in Business Insider - with Straker explaining how he creates his work. See www.businessinsider.com.au/fake-glowing-neon-lights-mural

Unlocking the city's heritage potential in the Historic Heart

Katie McDonald, Business News, 11 June 2018

Great story in the current issue of Business News on the resurgence of heritage restoration projects in the Perth CBD.

“Over the years there’s been an increase in people’s interest in heritage places”, said Leigh Barrett of Heritage Perth. “I’m really excited at the level of heritage restoration that’s happening in Perth ...”.

Recent examples include the State Buildings and Hibernian Hall, both in the Historic Heart of Perth.

“Heritage buildings by their very nature have a critical place in the locations in which they sit, from an Architecture perspective but equally the significance within the community. These buildings cannot be recreated ...”, said Kyle Jeavons of FJM Property.

City of Perth Deputy Commissioner Gaye McMath said the benefit of heritage restoration included: increased property values; offering a drawcard for tourism; and a reduction in construction and demolition waste.

Telegram Coffee in the Historic Heart best in Perth

Dylan Caporn, The West Australian, 4 June 2018

Congratulations Telegram Coffee at the State Buildings in the Historic Heart ... named one of the top 25 coffee places in the country in the Lonely Planet Global Coffee Tour.

The Lonely Planet Global Coffee Tour has revealed three of Perth’s best coffee hotspots for visitors and locals, as well as attractions to visit nearby. The guide praises three cafes — Telegram Coffee, in the State Buildings in the CBD, La Veen on King Street in Perth and Pixel Coffee Brewers in Leederville. They were included in the international travel guide’s list of top 25 places in the country.

“Telegram’s boss man and chief barista Luke Arnold has a reputation for perfection,” the guide reads. "So much so that fans have followed him as he’s ground, frothed and poured at different locations around Perth, before opening his eucalyptus capsule in 2015. His coffee beans, like the telegrams of old, connect to all corners of the globe.”

The guide also provides recommendations on things to do in the city, so that tourists can explore the area and get a good coffee.

A touch of luxury breathes life into Perth's Historic Heart

Hamish Hastie, WA Today, 27 April 2018

Historic Heart in the news with the opening of the new Westin Hotel.

"For years Perth’s "historic heart" hadn’t been beating. But all that changed today with the opening of a five-star hotel and surrounding precinct.

It’s hoped the $500 million 368-room Westin Hotel and Hibernian Place, nestled between the District Court and Saint Mary’s Cathedral, will reverse the fortunes of one of Perth’s forgotten corners."
