Historic Heart receives city of perth funding

Helen Shield, The West Australian, 3 October 2018

Another milestone for the Historic Heart Project with City of Perth commissioners approving $300,000 in matched funding support to Historic Heart of Perth Inc for stage two of our art and landscape revitalisation initiative in the city's east end.

City of Perth chair commissioner Eric Lumsden said the city would work with Historic Heart with the aim of creating a well-designed city space for all people.

“The City of Perth’s strategic vision is focused on revitalising urban spaces, such as the east end, that celebrate the city’s natural and built form,” he said.

“Historic Heart is a well established community group with evidence of high-quality outcomes, as shown through the positive impact of stage one.”

The Stage 1 program included installing planter boxes designed by Eekos Architecture and fabricated and installed by East Perth based Respoke.

These were planted with native wildflowers, selected by gardening expert Sabrina Hahn, and maintained by Green World Revolution, a not-for-profit enterprise that has created two jobs for people previously unemployed.

The artwork, including laneway murals by contemporary artists, was co-ordinated by art curator Margaret Moore, with urban design input from architect Sharni Howe.

Historic Heart of Perth to get busy spruicing up the city

Julian Wright, Community News, 31 August 2018

After freshening up Perth’s east end with Stage one of our art and landscape project in 2017, Historic Heart of Perth Inc is keen to create community events and activations.

This year we have been liaising with the Town Team Movement working on creating a committee of small business owners and residents to drive events and activations in the Historic Heart of Perth.

Historic Heart talks to the Town team Movement

The Town Team Movement is one of the many organisations Historic Heart of Perth Inc has been working with over the past 2 years. The Town Team Movement helps #townteams to organise, engage and empower their local communities.

Last week Historic Heart's Project Manager, Sandy Anghie, spoke to Town Team about the Historic Heart Project, how we have teamed up with social enterprise Green World Revolution and community care organisation Ruah to make a difference to our neighbourhood and its community.

Great story on Historic Heart's new App in the West Australian newspaper this week.

Historic Heart's App and walks are about encouraging the people of Perth, and tourists, to explore Perth's east end and rediscover this wonderful part of our city.

Our free App is available to download from 1 September 2018.

Historic Heart's small museums

Kent Acott, The West Australian, 21 July 2018

Fantastic story on Historic Heart's small museums in Saturday's West Australian newspaper.

The Historic Heart is home to one of Perth’s greatest collections of heritage listed buildings, forming important streetscapes of late 19th and 20th century architecture. This is evident if you walk through the area. But what you wouldn’t know just walking through Perth’s east end is that some of these buildings house intriguing small museums.

Historic Heart’s museums include the Old Court House Law Museum (housed in Perth’s oldest building, constructed in 1836), the Royal Perth Hospital Museum (housed in Perth’s first hospital), the DFES Heritage Centre (housed in Perth’s first fire station) and the YAL Museum (pictured here).

We hope the people of Perth take time to walk the Historic Heart, from the Old Court House Law Museum in Stirling Gardens to The Perth Mint on Hill Street and beyond, and explore the history of our city within these intriguing spaces.
